Bentley Ready To Build Bentayga EWB And Its 24 Billion Trim Combo

Bentley emphasizes luxury, and the Bentayga EWB shows that. The automaker introduced an expanded SUV in May, highlighting the handcrafting in the model. Bentley has signed off on this complex manufacturing process, putting the Bentayga one step closer to production.

According to the automaker, the Bentayga’s extended wheelbase has reached the mark needed to start production. The factory will start bringing the EWB Bentayga to life once the summer shutdown ends. Bentayga requires 132 hours of labor from its skilled craftsmen, which includes 10 hours just to collect the wood for each model. Bentley has used wood for its dashboard since its first model in 1921.

Bentley says that more than 50 percent of customers choose its Airline Seat or Diamond Illumination specifications. The Airline Seat has 12 electric motors and offers 22-way adjustment. The seat can also detect surface temperature to ensure maximum comfort and can perform 177 pressure changes. About 30 percent chose metal finishes, open porous wood, and an expanded range of paints.

Another standout feature of the Bentayga EWB is the ambient lighting of the door cards. This helps accentuate the doors and, at the rear, the SUV’s extra legroom. The doors feature 12 light-emitting diodes with 22 on the back, which shine through precision-crafted perforations less than a millimeter in diameter in the skin.

All these luxuries will make the back seat of the Bentayga the perfect place to be. Bentley extended the SUV’s wheelbase to 3,175 millimeters (125 inches), adding 180 mm (7.1) inches between the axles. The extended Bentley is available in four and five seat configurations.

Bentley only offers the Bentayga EWB with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 542 horsepower (398 kilowatts) and 568 pound-feet (770 Newton-meters) of torque. It might be big, but it can hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 4.6 seconds. It has a top speed of 180-mph (290-kph).

Bentley will start production soon, with the company expecting to start deliveries in the fourth quarter of this year. However, sales will start only in certain markets. Bentley has not released pricing information for the model.
