It seems incredible that, until just a few years ago, diesel was the majority choice of the Spanish buyer when buying a new car. Gone are those years. Today, diesels with a C label barely represent one in six passenger car registrations (116,694 units in the accumulated of the year, up to and including October, according to data from the DGT broken down by ANFAC). Very far from the figures for non-plug-in hybrids (192,224) and those labeled C with a gasoline engine (283,109 units).
Fewer and fewer cars continue to maintain diesel engines, already disappeared in some ranges and volume products, especially in small and urban cars. So the collapse of diesel no longer only has to do with demand, with fewer and fewer buyers opting for diesel, but also with supply, with products that are no longer available with diesel engines, replaced by mechanical hybrid and micro-hybrid gasoline or even bifuel.
In any case, it is interesting to analyze the market to verify that there are still products in which diesel is still relevantvery relevant.

Peugeot 3008.The irreducible diesels
It is quite surprising that in the top 10 of the best-selling diesels in Spain we find four Peugeot products (3008, 2008, 208 and 308) and three other Citroën products (C4, C3 Aircross and C3). So that 7 of the 10 best-selling diesels are taken over by the Stellantis group.
The electric Citroën C4 is one of the best-selling electric cars in Spain (1,215 units). But more than half of Citroën C4 sales use a diesel engine (6,240), which makes it the best-selling diesel in Spain this year. The same happens with the Peugeot 3008, the best-selling plug-in hybrid in Spain this year (2,263). Peugeot has managed to get many of its customers to bet on its plug-in hybrid technology, but the reality is that in the 3008 range, diesel continues to account for more than half of sales and double that of plug-in hybrid sales (5,499), ranking as the second best-selling diesel in Spain.
The third in contention, a premium. Two out of three sales of the Audi Q3 range are still diesel (5,264), despite the fact that the Audi Q3 is available with micro-hybrid mechanics that have an ECO label.
